Discreet Cat to stand in Japan

World Champion three-year-old and proven G1 sire will join Darley’s roster in Japan for 2017

Discreet Cat, winner of the famous G1 Cigar Mile and already the sire of six G1 horses (three of whom have won at the highest level), will stand as a Darley stallion in Japan for the forthcoming breeding season.

A wide-margin winner of his sole start at two, Discreet Cat returned at three and recorded a magnificent five-race unbeaten run. He took the UAE Derby by six lengths, defeating Horse of the Year Invasor. Returning to his native America, he then won his next start by an astounding 11 lengths before stepping back up to Group company in the G2 Jerome Handicap – a race which he won by ten and a quarter length. Another dominant victory followed this, his finest yet in the G1 Cigar Mile and sealed his position as World Champion three-year-old.

A son of Forestry, Discreet Cat has made a great impression, siring 22 individual Stakes winners and a further 18 horses who have placed at Black type level. Among his three G1 winners is Dads Caps, who landed the sought-after Carter Handicap two years in a row.

Harry Sweeney, Darley’s President in Japan, said, “We are very excited to be standing Discreet Cat in Japan from next year. We think his progeny will be well-suited to Japanese races and he already has some very promising runners in Japan including G3 Negishi Stakes winner Air Khalifa and proven Open class performer Qismah. His sire, Forestry, is by Storm Cat and will be an interesting mating for Sunday Silence line mares. We look forward to showing him to breeders in the coming weeks.”

Discreet Cat’s fee will be set at a later date.
