Jakkalberry takes inaugural American St Leger

Son of Storming Home adds further Black type to his superb record

Jakkalberry has been a wonderful flag bearer for his sire Storming Home and on 18 August, the G1 winner added further Black type to his record when winning the first ever American St Leger at Arlington Park, USA.

Settled in fifth under jockey Colm O’Donoghue, the six-year-old entire moved up approaching the home straight and cruised to the front, staying on brilliantly to win by two and a quarter lengths.

This was his tenth career win and fourth victory at Black type level, having won the G1 Gran Premio di Milano in 2010 and a pair of G3 contests. Earlier this year he finished a creditable third in the G1 Dubai Sheema Classic.

Bred by Azienda Agricola Allevamento Deni, Jakkalberry is out of the Barathea mare Claba Di San Jore – also dam of another G1 winner in Shamardal’s Crackerjack King.
