Pyro at the double

Shigeru Kaga and Blue Bossa Nova both win for first-season sire

Pyro, whose first crop of runners are two-year-olds this season, had a double on Sunday October 20 with winners at both Kyoto and Tokyo.

Shigeru Kaga, a colt out of the Shanghai mare Allegrezza, was winning for the second time. A debut winner over 1200m at Kokura, the Shigeru Morinaka bred colt easily dispatched an allowance field containing fifteen rivals by two-and-a-half lengths on the Kyoto 1200m turf course.

In contrast to Shigeru Kaga's victory, Pyro's other winner on the day came at Tokyo over 1400m on the dirt. Bred by Kawakami Bokujo, and owned by Blue Management Co Ltd, two-year-old filly Blue Bossa Nova beat 15 rivals on debut, winning by one-and-three-quarter lengths. Out of Toyo Samba (Timber Country), who was second in the Kanto Oaks and has now bred eight winners.

Pyro, the winner of G1 Forego Stakes who was also placed in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile, is now the sire of ten winners including the record-breaking JRA winner Louis Kazuma and Maple Legend, a debut winner at Nakayama.
