B B Barrel a first Group winner for Pyro

Three-year-old filly takes the G3 Fairy Stakes in impressive style

Pyro enjoyed an outstanding season in 2015, siring no fewer than 61 winners headed by Stakes-winning colt Shigeru Kaga. The promising young stallion got 2016 off to a flying start on 11 January when his three-year-old daughter B B Barrel landed the G3 Fairy Stakes, run over a mile at Nakayama.

Breaking smartly from the stalls, B B Barrel soon took the lead and travelling well throughout the race, simply could not be caught and closed out her race superbly to win by a length and three quarters and become the first Group winner for her sire. This was her second career victory and she will now be aimed at this year’s Japanese Classics.

B B Barrel was bred by Efue Bokujo and is out of the unraced Silver Hawk mare Fine Dimple, dam of another Group winner in Arlington Cup victor Double Wedge. She is from the family of G1 winner Link River.

Pyro was himself a brilliant winner of the G1 Forego Stakes, one of four Group victories he recorded during his racing career. He is by Pulpit, also sire of leading US stallion Tapit.

Pyro stands at Darley in Japan at a fee of 2 million yen.
