Son of Xaar wins the Swedish Derby

Two Stakes winners in one day for the Darley Japan stallion

Moe Green, a three-year-old son of Darley stallion Xaar, recorded his fifth consecutive victory and maintained his unbeaten 2010 record in impressive style on 8 August when landing the Swedish Derby by three lengths.

Moe Green is out of the unraced Sadler’s Wells mare Scripture, an own-sister to G3 winner Scribe and fellow Black type winner Northern Hal. They are from the family of multiple G1 winners Annoconnor and At Talaq.

Later on Sunday, Moudez, also by Xaar, returned to the track with a scintillating win in the Listed Joseph T Grace Handicap at Santa Rosa in California.

Racing in third position early on, the six-year-old was settled at the rear of the field before coming with an electrifying late run that saw him sweep past his rivals and win the eight-and-a-half furlong contest by a length and a quarter. He covered the final half-furlong in a blistering five seconds.

Moudez is also out of a Sadler’s Wells mare in Summer Dreams, herself a half sister to G1 German Derby winner All My Dreams.

Xaar has now sired eight Black type performers so far this year, including G1 Prix Jean Prat third, Xtension.
