Sajjhaa impresses at Meydan

Daughter of King’s Best lands G2 Cape Verdi Stakes

Sajjhaa, a daughter of King's Best (who is standing in Japan for the first time this year), landed the feature race on the card at Meydan on 24 January, running out the convincing winner of the G2 Cape Verdi.

Drawn widest of all, Sajjhaa raced wide for much of the one-mile contest and taking the lead two furlongs from home, quickly saw off the challenge of First City (who won the race last year) and eased away from the field to win by almost four lengths.

The Saeed bin Suroor-trained mare is now likely to be aimed at the G2 Balanchine (1800m), due to take place at Meydan on 21 February.

Bred by Darley, Sajjhaa is out of the winning Darshaan mare Anaamil, herself a daughter of G3 winner and G1 Epsom Oaks third Noushkey.

King’s Best, who stands at a fee of 1.5 million yen, is also sire of seven G1 winners including outstanding Epsom Derby and Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner Workforce, and Eishin Flash, winner of the Japan Derby and Tenno Sho.
