I’mgonnabesomebody rockets to victory in Fresno’s Bull Dog Stakes

Will Take Charge gelding earns his second Stakes win of the season

I’mgonnabesomebody swept to the lead on the far turn and drew off through the stretch to post a six-length victory in the $75,000 Bull Dog Stakes at Fresno on Sunday, 15 October.

It was the second Stakes win of the year for the five-year-old Will Take Charge gelding, who also took the Listed All American Stakes at Golden Gate Fields in May.

Third in this race last year, I’mgonnabesomebody found better success this time around, making a bold, sweeping move on the far turn to take the lead, then pulling away through the lane to win easily over Love Candy.

Bred in Kentucky by Elm Tree Farm LLC, I’mgonnabesomebody is out of the mare Brown Rice, a Stakes-placed daughter of Big Brown. Brown Rice is out of the Multiple Stakes-placed mare, Saffronista, winner of the OBS Championship Stakes and Runaway Marcie Stakes.

Winner of the Eclipse Award as Champion 3-year-old colt in 2013, Will Take Charge is also the sire of There Goes Harvard, winner of the 2022 G1 Hollywood Gold Cup. His daughter, Will’s Secret, finished third that same year in the G1 Kentucky Oaks. In addition to I’mgonnabesomebody, Will Take Charge is also represented in 2023 by Princess Bettina, winner of the Listed China Doll Stakes and Miss Yearwood, winner of the Keertana Stakes at Churchill Downs.
