Heart and Soul

Former G2-winning Commands four-year-old Soul salutes at Betfair Park

Commands secured further Black-type success on 12th November when Soul claimed the Listed Kevin Heffernan Stakes over 1300m at Betfair Park.

The four-year-old gelding showed a great deal of heart, typical of the Commands progeny, to carry 59kgs to win by half-a-length in a time of 1:18.97. He appeared to relish the short freshen up given by Darley head trainer Peter Snowden.

Soul is a Woodlands homebred, out of Marvilha, who herself is a half-sister to G1 winners Denman and Preserve. Soul has now won three of his twelve starts and appears to have an affinity with jockey Mark Zahra, who has won twice on the gelding at Stakes level. Soul had previously won the G2 Danehill Stakes at Flemington.

The sire of 43 Stakes winners including this season’s Ambidexter, Lamasery, Rain Affair, Jimando and Balmont, Commands is standing the current breeding season at Darley Kelvinside at a fee of $66,000 (inc GST).
