A weekend to remember for Pyro

Three JRA winners for son of Pulpit

Pyro has been enjoying an excellent 2016, especially through the exploits of G3 Fairy Stakes winner B B Barrel, and he sired a JRA treble this past weekend.

First to set the ball rolling on Saturday was the four-year-old colt Pyroxene, who was winning his second race over Kokura's 1700m dirt track. Bred by Okaribe Bokujo, he is out of the winning Lammtarra mare Ishino Steel, a half-sister to the G2 winner Hookipa Wave.

On the same day, but at Hanshin this time, Enkindle was victorious for the fourth time. This was his second victory at Hanshin, both over 2000m on dirt, having already been successful at Kyoto and Chukyo. Bred by Darley, his dam is the G3-winning juvenile Loving Pride, who has already produced six winners including the multiple scorer Love And Pop (Admire Moon).

A day later on Sunday at Nakayama, the three-year-old colt Shigeru Kurodai broke his maiden, getting up close home to defeat Eraclea (Raven's Pass) by a nose in the 1800m contest, with a length-and-a-quarter back to the third. Bred by Shigeru Morinaka, he is one of four winners bred out of the Hansel mare Shigeru Ko Rabwa.

Pyro is standing this season at a fee of 2 million yen.
