Second straight Stakes win for son of King’s Best

Bernay lands Listed contest in France

Bernay, a four-year-old son of King's Best, has been a very consistent performer this year and on 20 July he added a second consecutive Stakes win when taking the Listed Prix Hubert Baguenault de Puchesse, run over 2400m at Vichy in France.

Sent straight to the front by his jockey Gregory Benoist, Bernay saw off the late challenge from Iltemas in superb style to win by a length.

He opened his 2015 season with a close second in the Listed Le Vase d’Argent (where he was beaten just a short neck), before winning the Listed Grand Prix de Bordeaux at the end of May.

Bernay was bred by G Rollain and is out of the unraced Bering mare Beringold, also dam of Group-winning filly Don’t Hurry Me.

King’s Best, who has his first yearlings in Japan this year, is also sire this year of Group winner Meleagros, plus fellow Group performer Ajalo. He has sired eight G1 winners to date, headed by Derby-winning duo Eishin Flash and Workforce.
